Scott Bartell, MS, PhD
Research Interests
For the past 25 years, Bartell has dedicated his research to quantifying human exposures and health effects caused by environmental contaminants, including perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) – specifically the presence and epidemiology of PFAS in U.S. water sources. His graduate students produce impactful research on these topics, publishing first authored papers in high quality, peer-reviewed journals including Environmental Health Perspectives, Environmental Science & Technology, Environmental Research, and Journal of Exposure Science And Environmental Epidemiology.
Karen Edwards, MS, PhD
Research Interests
Primary research focus is in genetic epidemiology and the use of multivariate approaches to define phenotypes for complex diseases. Edwards’ genetic epidemiology research covers a broad range of conditions, including diabetes, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disease, melanoma and Parkinson’s Disease. Her research interest also looks into the interactions between environmental factors (particularly diet) and genetic susceptibility (Gene x environment interactions). Additionally, Edwards works on several interdisciplinary projects that focus on the ethical, legal or social implications of genomics and applications to clinical and public health practice.
Rufus Edwards, PhD
Research Interests
Some of Dr. Edwards’s research interests are human exposures to air pollution, indoor air pollution, paint emissions, and emissions of climate-altering pollutant species.
Deborah Goodman-Gruen, MD, MPH, PhD
Research Interests
Some of Dr. Goodman-Gruen’s research interests are cancer epidemiology and chronic disease prevention.
Yunxia Lu, MSc, PhD
Research Interests
Some of Dr. Lu’s research interests are in cancer etiology and prevention, cancer prognosis, obesity epidemiology, and pharmacoepidemiology.
Joel Milam, PhD
Research Interests
Dr. Milam’s research interests include young adult cancer survivorship, positive psychology, and HIV prevention/control.
Trina Norden-Krichmar, MS, PhD
Research Interests
Some of Norden-Krichmar’s research interests are in bioinformatics, genetic factors in human diseases, gene expression analysis, methylation, non-coding RNA, metagenomics, medical, environmental and marine genomics, and more.
Andrew Odegaard, MPH, PhD
Research Interests
Dr. Odegaard’s research largely focuses on the patterns, causes and consequences of obesity and insulin resistance, with particular attention to dietary intake. He has concentrated efforts related to aspects of body composition and adipose tissue depots hypothesized to be causal factors in the predominant chronic diseases of the current era. His research considers the life course and employs observational and randomized study designs.
Daniel Parker, PhD
Research Interests
Spatial epidemiology of infectious diseases; spatial demography, especially in neglected populations and conflict zones; environmental correlates of vector borne diseases and access to healthcare; and access to healthcare especially in neglected and atypical populations.
Min Zhang, MD, PhD, MS, PhD
Research Interests
Dr. Zhang’s research interests include bioinformatics, statistical genetics and genomics, machine learning, genome-wide association studies, and RNA-seq data analysis.
