Double Major with Public Health

About

The Program in Public Health offers students two options to double major, provided the student completes all the requirements outlined under each degree.

Option 1:

Double major in the BA in Public Health Policy and the BS in Public Health Sciences.

Option 2:

Double major with either our BA or BS degrees and another major on the UCI campus.

A request for a double major requires the online approval of both schools or programs offering the majors for any major change to occur. Additionally, students are allowed to overlap up to two courses between majors.

Public Health Major Prerequisites

Students seeking to double major with one our public health bachelor’s degrees must meet the following criteria:

Public Health Science (BS)
  • Minimum cumulative 2.0 UC GPA.
  • A 2.0 GPA in the quarter immediately preceding the change of major application.
  • Completion of PubHlth 1, PubHlth 2, Chem 1A, Chem 1B, BioSci 93 & BioSci 94 with a combined 2.5 GPA.
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA for all UCI courses previously completed required for the PHS degree.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA for all courses transferred from other institutions required for PHS.
Public Health Policy (BA)
  • Minimum cumulative 2.0 UC GPA.
  • A 2.0 GPA in the quarter immediately preceding the change of major application.
  • Completion of PubHlth 1, PubHlth 2, PubHlth 7A (or equivalent statistics course) with a combined 2.5 GPA.
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA for all UCI courses previously required for the PHP degree.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA for all courses transferred from other institutions required for PHP.
