At UCI Public Health, we work directly with communities to assess the quality and effectiveness of healthcare delivery and its impacts on population health. By partnering with community groups on critical research projects, we can better understand community needs and improve the delivery of care in a way that is more equitable and sustainable for all.

Who We Are
SEARCH comprises graduate and undergraduate Public Health students who are committed to reducing the global burden of disease through biosocial approaches to research. The Lab is spearheaded by Dean Bernadette Boden-Albala.
What We Do
SEARCH uses demographic and behavioral information to explore risk factors for disease both domestically and globally.
Social and biological processes shape the health of populations and communities. Social epidemiology is distinguished by explicitly investigating the ways in which one’s surroundings, including social, cultural, psychological, political, and economic circumstances interact to create and/or prevent health, disease, and well-being, rather than treating such determinants as mere background to biomedical phenomena. SEARCH conducts activities to support the research of Dean Bernadette Boden-Albala with special focus on stroke, chronic disease and risk factors, and COVID-19.
