Degree Pathway

The Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics provides the following framework for prospective graduate students. This framework represents the academic coursework, comprehensive exams and research requirements to earn a PhD degree. Each graduate student will customize their elective courses and research activities based upon their individual intellectual interests and with specific mentorship from their faculty advisor.

* Epidem 205 and Epidem 202 are offered in alternating years. Students enroll in Epidem 297 after formal advancement.

Students will take the doctoral preliminary exam at the end year 1, which will focus on material covered in Epidemiology and Biostatistics series.

In year 2, students will begin to identify and develop their research in preparation for the dissertation proposal and will advance to candidacy by the end of the year.
