Dr. Oladele Ogunseitan elected to Fellowship in the American Academy of Microbiology

Congratulations to Oladele “Dele” Ogunseitan, PhD, UC Presidential Chair and professor of population health and disease prevention with the UCI Program in Public Health, who was recently selected to serve as a fellow in the American Academy of Microbiology, one of the largest life sciences societies in the world.

Each year, the Academy recognizes exceptional microbiologists for their scientific excellence, leadership, service, and scholarly achievement. Dr. Ogunseitan is one of 65 fellows to be elected to the Academy this year representing a wide variety of microbiology sectors, including public health, research, education, industry, and government.

Ogunseitan passed a rigorous nomination process involving two rounds of review by the Academy’s Sub-Committee on Elections to Fellowship and further certification by the Governors of the Academy. Through the fellowship, Dr. Ogunseitan will serve as a leader in the field, providing advice and insight on critical issues in microbiology to stakeholders across industries and disciplines.

Ogunseitan, who joined UCI in 1992, is also a U.S. Department of State Jefferson Science Fellow and has been honored with UCI’s Excellence in Teaching Award, an Outstanding Mentoring Award from the American Society for Microbiology Board on Underrepresented Members, and a Leadership Award for OpenCourseWare Excellence from the American Council on Education.
