Are forever chemicals in my tap water? For many in South Florida, the answer is yes

"Often legacy PFAS chemicals, including PFOA and PFOS, which have, by the way, been detected in parts of Miami and other parts of Florida in the water that we have the most evidence of that has been studied the longest. They were sort of two of the PFAS that were most highly produced historically before they were phased out of production in the 2000s. But they're still present in water supplies around the country, including Miami." (Scott Bartell)

Forever chemicals: What they are and which products they are in

"Once we contaminate soil or water or other parts of the environment with them, they tend to just linger because they don't break down easily, with sunlight or with the natural environment. They could last for hundreds and hundreds of years once they are out in the environment. " (Scott Bartell)

Survey reveals concerns over PFAS contamination in U.S. drinking water

"While the EPA's new regulations represent progress, many water utilities won't need to comply until 2029. This delay, combined with the complexity of PFAS, underscores the need for immediate consumer education and proactive measures." (Scott Bartell)

PFAS: Forever and Everywhere Chemicals

"And so first thing to understand is PFAS are constituted of many different chemicals. But what they have in common is that they're all manmade. None of these exist in nature. But they've been produced widely in the developed world for many decades now since about the 1940s 1950s." (Scott Bartell)

Is It Safe to Drink Tap Water in a Hotel?

"Hotel water is often as safe as the public water supply where the hotel is located, but some remote hotels have their own private water supplies, which are less regulated. In some older hotels, tap water might be contaminated by lead pipes. " (Scott Bartell)

What are PFAS? ‘Forever chemicals’ are common and dangerous.

"For instance, PFAS are commonly used in non-stick cookware, greaseproof food packaging, outdoor clothing, waterproof cosmetics, and stain-resistant carpets and furniture. While most such products don't advertise that they were made using PFAS, if a product says it's waterproof, stain proof, or non-sticking, and isn't advertised as being PFAS-free, then it likely contains PFAS." OC faces $1.8B challenge posed by new EPA rules on ‘forever’ chemicals in tap water

"One of the arguments we made when I applied for Orange County to be one of the test sites is that we have one of the largest affected water systems in the country. Other, smaller sites are affected by a single source, and confined to a smaller group of people. That’s not the case here. There isn’t any one specific cause for our (PFAS) problem here, and it’s not affecting any specific group of people." (Scott Bartell)
