Congratulations on reaching this point in your UCI journey. Before celebrating your pending graduation, please review the following requirements and check list.
Undergraduate Graduation Requirements
- A minimum overall UCI 2.0 GPA, for all major requirements and a 2.0 GPA for all upper-division courses (PH 101 — PH 195W). Please note that UC Irvine Joe C. Wen School of Population & Public Health only recognizes the most current chronological grade.
- Completion of 180 units.
- A completed DegreeWorks academic course plan, which includes: University, General Education and Major Requirements. All major requirements must be taken for a letter grade.
- A minimum grade of “C” or higher in Public Health 195W
- Completion of additional major(s) or minor(s).
- Completion of the Public Health Survey, which will be sent after certification.
Please note the following: The unit total is ONLY found on the Unofficial Transcript, disregard “Credits Applied” located in DegreeWorks.
Repeating a course where a D-or above was received; no additional units will be added. Within the last 45 UCI units, only 6 semester or 9 quarter units may be transferred from another University/College. UCI only accepts a total of 105 transferrable lower-division units in totality.
Time to Degree Policy
Students who enter UCI directly from high school are expected to complete all degree requirements within 5 years (15 full-time quarters, not including summers). This includes completion of any minors or additional (double) majors.
Students who enter UCI as junior transfer students from other institutions are expected to complete all degree requirements within 3 years (9 full-time quarters, not including summers). This includes completion of any minors or additional (double) majors.
Application for Graduation
To be certified for your degree, you need to apply for graduation. Graduation is NOT automatic. You must file an Application for Graduation online in Student Access by the deadline stated for the quarter in which you expect to graduate. Submit an application when you have at least 120 units of cumulative credit.
Students are certified once all coursework and grades have been posted to their UCI transcript and they have completed the Public Health survey. If you plan to finish your degree requirements in spring you would apply for spring graduation. If you plan to complete your degree requirements at the end of summer, you would apply for summer graduation. Students graduating in fall, winter, spring or summer may participate in the Commencement Ceremonies during the spring of the academic year in which they graduate. Students finishing in fall are required to attend the Commencement Ceremony following degree completion.

To submit a Graduation Application, visit the UCI Registrar’s Office and apply to graduate.
We encourage you to apply as soon as possible. Once you apply, an Academic Advisor will review your Degree Audit to make sure everything is updated and then “Receive” your application. Please note that in order to participate in the Commencement Ceremony, you need to submit your graduation application by the deadlines above. To ensure that you are on track for the quarter of your expected graduation, you are encouraged to schedule an appointment with an Academic Advisor. You may also see a Peer Advisor via Drop-in Advising to conduct a graduation check.

Reminders
If you are a double major: Double majors must finish both sets of degree requirements within the same quarter. If you need extra time to finish one of your majors, you must move both graduation applications to the quarter you will finish.
If you are pursuing a minor: Notify a Public Health Academic Advisor to add the minor to your online degree audit in Student Access prior to submitting your Application for Graduation.
If you have completed course work at a community college that is needed for your degree, please be sure you have requested the official transcript(s) be submitted directly to:

UCI Commencement
To be eligible to participate in the Commencement Ceremony, you must submit an Application for Graduation by the stated deadlines. If you miss this deadline, you may not be able to order Commencement tickets for your guests and your name will not appear in the Commencement Program.
Tickets: Tickets are required to attend Commencement. Ticket information is available on the Commencement website.

Latin Honors at Graduation: The campus policy specifies that no more than 12 percent of graduating seniors will receive academic honors: approximately 1 percent summa cum laude, 3 percent magna cum laude, and 8 percent cum laude. Students must have completed at least 72 quarter units in residence at a University of California campus. Students who have on file recorded incidents of academic dishonesty are not eligible for Honors at Graduation.
In addition to this campus criteria, Wen Public Health uses cumulative GPA as the criterion for the awarding of Honors at Graduation. The Commencement program will list candidates for Honors at Graduation who qualify based on cumulative grade point average through the spring quarter and who have applied for graduation by the March deadline. The official designation of Honors on the diploma and transcript will be based upon the candidate’s cumulative GPA and total units completed at the end of the final quarter. The re-calculation may result in your Latin Honors distinction being moved or eliminated.
Diplomas & Transcripts
Degrees are noted on official transcripts approximately six to seven weeks after the end of the quarter in which they are awarded. Academic transcripts may be ordered from the Registrar’s Office in advance, indicating that they be held until the degree is noted on the transcript.
Diplomas: Diplomas will be available approximately two to four months after the quarter in which the degree was awarded. The Registrar’s Office will notify you by mail when your diploma is available. More information about this process is available at the UCI Registrar’s Office.
Upon graduation, academic records are final (may not be changed). It is your responsibility to check the accuracy of your academic record before you graduate. (Note that an NR becomes an F or NP after one quarter of subsequent enrollment or at the end of the quarter immediately preceding award of the degree, whichever comes first (Academic Senate Regulation 345). Contact the instructor of the class about the possibility of removing the NR or replacing it with a grade.)
