Admissions
We are excited that you have chosen to apply to the Wen Public Health Master of Science in Epidemiology program. Applicants are admitted for the fall quarter following the deadline. We do not offer entrance in any other quarters. We encourage you to start the two application process early to ensure that your file is complete by the deadline. Completed applications are reviewed after the posted application deadline.
The deadline for receipt of all application materials for the MS program is December 1, 2024.
Who Can Apply
Students entering the program have diverse backgrounds, including public health and other health related disciplines, clinical training, biological sciences, social sciences, physical sciences among other disciplines. There is no formal specific degree requirement beyond what is noted below.
Admission Requirement
General requirements for admission to graduate study are that the applicant hold the degree of Bachelor of Arts, Letters, Philosophy, or Science (or an acceptable equivalent) from an accredited academic institution with degree standards equivalent to those of the University of California. A minimum undergraduate grade point average of at least B (3.0 on a 4.0 scale) is required.
In addition to meeting the general admission requirements set by the Graduate Division, applicants must be admitted by an admissions committee composed of faculty members of the graduate program. Candidates will be selected on the basis of a balanced evaluation of the following criteria, with no one factor having more influence:
- Prior scholastic performance, including a consideration of grades, course load, nature of courses taken, and college attended;
- Recommendations by professors and others;
- An interview by members of the Admissions Committee and other faculty members, when feasible; and
- Experience in undergraduate and/or post-baccalaureate research;
- Scores for the general Graduate Record Examination test (GRE): temporarily waived for admissions for Fall 2025, but students need to demonstrate through some avenue basic quantitative achievement or aptitude.
While the epidemiology department has no additional requirements, admission into our program is competitive. To apply to the MS in Epidemiology program, you need to submit one application via the UCI Graduate Division as well as through the SOPHAS site.
