UC Irvine Joe C. Wen School of Population & Public Health is committed to maintaining and celebrating a diverse and inclusive environment for all members of the campus community and beyond. Ongoing Curriculum Review
Public Health faculty actively participate in ongoing curriculum review for the elimination of post-colonial content and literature.

Health Justice Advocates
Wen Public Health provides support for student-led organizations, including Health Justice Advocates, who conduct a wide range of activities focused on the Black Lives Matter movement, social justice, and public health.

Diversity Fellowships
Wen Public Health offers several fellowships to students with personal experience and connections to diverse cultures including the Founding Dean’s Diversity Fellowship, Latino Excellence and Achievement Award, and Public Health Leadership Awards.

UCI Black Thriving Initiative Faculty Cluster Hire in Environmental Health Disparities
Building on UCI’s enduring commitment to inclusive excellence, the Black Thriving Initiative faculty cluster hire program in Environmental Health Disparities leverages the university’s research, teaching, and service mission to advance understanding about the drivers of well-being in support of Black communities.

Graduate Cluster on Environmental Racism & Health Equity
The Graduate Cluster provides fellows with structured training in environmental racism and health equity while helping them build their research and professional skills. Students receive ongoing mentorship and support from the university and broader community.

Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion

As the Associate Dean for DEI, Ramirez is leading schoolwide strategic efforts to infuse diversity, equity and inclusion into our research, teaching and service missions.  She is guided by the DEI strategic plan, and will pursue efforts to create culturally responsive and inclusive policies, structures and supports to advance our school’s pursuit of justice and equity in public health.

Alana LeBrón, MS, PhD
Equity Advisor

As our Equity Advisor, LeBrón, participates in faculty recruitment by approving search strategies and raising awareness of best practices in diversity, organizing faculty development programs, with both formal and informal mentoring, and addressing individual issues raised by women and underrepresented minority faculty.

Decade Mentor

As our DECADE Mentor, Sparks works with personnel in the Graduate Division to promote active mentoring and programmatic activities for a diverse doctoral population. Wen Public Health aims to increase the number of minorities and women underrepresented in their disciplines receiving doctoral degrees at UCI.
