Tim Bruckner, PhD, professor of health, society, and behavior at the UC Irvine Program in Public Health, has received the title of Chancellor’s Fellow for a three-year term. This distinguished campus title is used to honor and recognize UCI scholars of exceptional value, and whose recent achievements in scholarly activities exhibit promise for world-class contributions to knowledge.

The title, which includes monetary support for research, is truly deserving of the contributions Dr. Bruckner has provided to the public health community. Since 2009, Dr. Bruckner’s tenure at UCI has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to excellence in both teaching and research. He has authored over 110 publications, spearheaded a workforce training program for undergraduates and graduates with an emphasis on public health informatics and technology, and has actively conducted extramural funded research.

As a population health researcher, Dr. Bruckner seeks to understand the social, economic, and policy impacts on health inequity, especially around maternal and child health. He is the co-director of the UCI Center for Population, Inequality, and Policy where he leads an interdisciplinary cohort of researchers studying fertility, mortality, migration, family formation, enumeration, and aging. Much of his own work is centered around the response to ambient changes in the environment, whether it is due to social determinants of health, the economy, or health policy. With a focus on vulnerable populations, such as pregnant women and persons with mental disorders, Dr. Bruckner is in a tireless pursuit of knowledge that can have significant contributions on a global scale.

Congratulations to Dr. Bruckner on receiving this well-deserved title. His research, innovative ideas, and commitment to pushing the boundaries of knowledge have garnered international acclaim. His work has not only enriched our university’s academic reputation but has also paved the way for world-class contributions to their field. Our Program in Public Health looks forward to witnessing his continued journey of academic excellence.
