Interinstitutional collaboration lead by Denise Payan to advance health equity in California

A testament to the innovative and interdisciplinary research that our public health faculty provide to the UC community and the state of California, Denise Payan, PhD, assistant professor of Health, Society & Behavior, was awarded a 2023 UC Multicampus Research Program and Initiatives (MRPI) for her proposal for: “Strengthening Policy and Translational Research to Advance Health Equity in California.”

“Our interdisciplinary team will build health policy networks and capacity across four UC campuses to help address relevant population-level health issues at state and local levels,” says Payan. “As part of this effort, we also hope to expand health policy training opportunities across campuses and invest in local health equity research to address regional needs.”

Payan’s MRPI award was one of twenty-one outstanding proposals that enhance UC’s research enterprise and push UCI’s translational research mission forward that will ultimately benefit the people of California.
