UCI Public Health was well represented at the 2022 Interdisciplinary Association for Population Health Science Annual Meeting

A total of three projects were presented at the IAPHS meeting, which took place in Minneapolis this past September. The meeting is considered the premiere event that brings together scientists from different disciplines as well as population health practitioners.

  • PhD in Public Health students, Erika Mey and Michael Huynh, presented their research, titled: “Type-2 Diabetes and Psychological Distress among Asian American Ethnic Groups in California.” Both students have their doctoral degree emphasis in Disease Prevention. Dr. Annie Ro, associate professor of health, society, and behavior acted as mentor to Mey and Huynh.

  • PhD candidate, Connie Valencia, presented on “Civic engagement around issues of environmental justice among Boyle Heights residents.” Valencia’s doctoral degree has an emphasis in disease prevention.

  • Dr. Brittany Morey, assistant professor of health, society, and behavior, acted as an advisor on Valencia’s research as well as presented her own research collaboration on, “Using Business Listing Data for a New Measure of Neighborhood Asian-Serving and Hispanic-Serving Sociocultural Institutions and Implications for Health.” This project was supported by a grant from the National Cancer Institute.
