Meet Lira Islam, undergraduate Class of 2019 and MPH Class of 2021.
Tell us about your current job post UCI:
I am currently a second year MPH student, with an emphasis in epidemiology. I currently work at UCI Campus Human Resources as an Engagement & Wellness Coordinator, striving to build a culture of engagement and heath that supports the well-being of our university’s faculty and staff. What interests me the most about this position is that it is very dynamic, challenges me as a professional, and has a supportive team. I’m very excited to finish my studies in June and contribute my knowledge as a public health professional.
Who inspires you?
My friends and family inspire me to follow my passions, be true to myself, and never give up. I’m very grateful for all the kind and genuine people in my life.
What is your favorite UCI memory?
My favorite UCI memory is walking through Aldrich Park during Spring to see the cherry blossoms. I remember being completely blown away by its beauty and would always try to see them.
What is your favorite quote or message to current students?
One of her favorite quotes is if you don’t like something, change it. If you can’t change it, change your attitude. -Maya Angelou
