Congratulations to UC Presidential Chair Oladele Ogunseitan, PhD, a professor of population health and disease prevention, who has recently been appointed as a member of the Technical Advisory Group (TAG) of the international Tripartite group. The group is comprised of organizations including the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations (FAO), and the World Health Organization (WHO). TAG members play an essential role in discussing zoonotic diseases – those that can pass between humans and animals – and how to support countries with their disease control and prevention interventions.

Dr. Ogunseitan will assist with the development of Tripartite-endorsed standardized competencies for applied epidemiology for both the public and animal health sectors. His work will be conducted through the lens of the Center’s for Disease Control’s One Health Office, a multisectoral and transdisciplinary approach that recognizes the health of humans, animals, and the environment as interconnected and interdependent. In this capacity, Dr. Ogunseitan will serve as a reviewer of the group’s One Health Competencies Guidelines and advise on curriculum development. This project is an essential component of the Tripartite’s work in supporting countries to prepare and respond to zoonotic diseases.
