Anti-Racism Seminar Series

The Program in Public Health in partnership with the Office of Inclusive Excellence is offering a quarterly Anti-Racism Seminar Series for all Susan & Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences (COHS) students this year.

Please join us for the next installment of this series:

February 12 at 2:00 p.m.

Topic: Interpersonal Accountability
Facilitated by Xavier Hernandez, PhD
Diversity Education Officer, Susan & Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences

The term “microaggressions” has risen to prominence in the public discourse over the last decade – but how “micro” are they, really? When this term is misconstrued, it conveys a sense of both inevitability and inaction. In this session, participants will critically examine their responsibility to their colleagues toward collectively establishing an anti-racist environment. After analyzing the root causes and long-term effects of microaggressions in academic and professional environments, we will discuss tangible ways to foster honest, and often difficult discussions that are necessary to create an environment where all can thrive.
