MPH Fellowships

Professional Degree Supplemental Tuition (PDST) shall be assessed to students enrolled in designated graduate professional degree programs in order to achieve and maintain excellence in the preparation of students for professional careers and effectively advance the mission and strategic academic plan of the graduate professional degree program charging a PDST.

Students in the Master of Public Health program are charged PDST quarterly based on enrollment status. Current PDST rates are listed on the University Registrar’s Tuition and Fees page.

The Program in Public Health returns at least 33% of PDST collected annually to MPH students in the form of fellowships and scholarships awarded at admission based on information included in the application for admission. No additional application is required for these fellowships and scholarships. Award notification is included in admission offer letters each year.

Public Health Dean’s Fellowship

Award to a student who demonstrates outstanding academic merit (in the top 2% of applicants from incoming class) and leadership potential in public health.

  • Amount: $3,000
  • Disbursement: $1,000 per quarter in the first year of enrollment (Fall, Winter, Spring)
  • Criteria: Full-time enrollment (12 or more units) and satisfactory academic progress

Public Health First Generation Fellowship

Awarded to a student who is the first in their family to pursue advanced training or graduate school and has overcome personal or educational obstacles to pursue a master’s degree.

  • Amount: $6,000
  • Disbursement: $1,000 per month in the first and second quarters of enrollment (October, November, December, January, February, March)
  • Criteria: Full-time enrollment (12 or more units) and satisfactory academic progress

Public Health Diversity Fellowship

Awarded to a student with personal experience with, and connection to, diverse populations and who has demonstrated commitment to promoting diversity within public health.

  • Amount: Partial tuition and fees for two winter quarters. PDST is not covered by this fellowship.
  • Disbursement: Direct payment of partial tuition and fees for Winter quarters in the first and second year of enrollment.
  • Criteria: Full-time enrollment (12 or more units) and satisfactory academic progress

Public Health Summer Scholarship

Awarded to students based on qualification and academic accomplishments. Since the MPH program does not offer courses during the summer, the Summer Scholarship is meant to provide support for living expenses when financial aid is not available.

  • Amount: $2,000 – $4,000
  • Disbursement: Full amount of award disbursed in the summer (July) after the first year of enrollment in the MPH program
  • Criteria: Full-time enrollment (12 or more units) during the first year of the program, enrollment in courses during Fall of the second year and satisfactory academic progress

Students who are awarded MPH Fellowships and/or Scholarships and plan to apply for additional financial aid are encouraged to reach out to the UCI Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships to discuss any effects these awards may have on university financial aid packages.
