Earthquake geology at the Van Matre Ranch Site

Investigators

Dr. Ramón Arrowsmith and Jeri Young from ASU
Dr. Lisa Grant and Gabriela Noriega at UC Irvine.

Summary

In this project we measured the slip rate of the San Andreas fault in the southern Carrizo Plain by measuring the offset and age of several small channels that cross the fault. The new slip rate allows comparison with slip rates at other sites and geodetic measurements for assessment of spatial and/or temporal variability and uncertainty. These parameters are important for constraining models of earthquake recurrence, fault behavior and seismic hazard.
